Bullying can make it harder for kids to succeed in the classroom. This can make it hard for them to keep up with their academic studies. If students are bullied regularly, they may not want to go to school or participate in school-related activities, like sports or field trips (8).
For Russian girls, the authors found a link between loneliness and pregnancy (12)
But why the fuck do we still do this?! As adults we know there's at least one kid who's going to get nothing and feel left out. Schools have policies that you can't invite kids to parties outside of school unless all the kids in the class are invited. So why the fuck are we still doing fucking candy grams without making sure that every kid gets at least one?
Students who do not have a sense of belonging at school will exhaust themselves while seeking to satisfy this need and will not be capable of the higher-level functioning needed to excel in school (12).
Loneliness- A psychological condition, or feeling, that results from a perceived discrepancy between an individual's preferred and actual level of social relations (14).
Refusing to discuss anything about friendship is a sign your kid is lonely (1)
Lohre (2012) reported that more frequently perceiving loneliness was significantly associated with sadness and anxiety among 419 Norwegian children between the ages of 7–16. (12)
Causes of Loneliness (12):
lack of socioemotional, communicative and problem-solving skills in interpersonal contexts can lead to loneliness.
comparing oneself negatively with others can make one feel lonely
beliefs about not being good enough to be in a particular situation, such as believing that others do not want to spend time with or talk to you, negatively impact on the ability or opportunity to interact and so cause loneliness
feeling unable to approach others
Isolating yourself
antisocial actions towards others
the Physical state a person is in which is specific to individuals (hormones, poor sleep) can also speak to possible idiosyncratic internal causes of loneliness
inappropriate management of negative emotions also constitutes part of loneliness as a personal experience. Excessive experience of negative emotion (anxiety/stress, depression, bereavement or other traumatic events or even boredom, can precipitate feelings of loneliness
external stressors were identified as contributing to loneliness, such as the trauma experienced from bereavement, or high-pressure events like exams, or Transitions (different school/divorce)
when behaviors or characteristics of others' inhibit communication
Unfortunately, many people today report feeling lonely and socially isolated. Feelings of loneliness have reportedly doubled in the U.S. since the 1980s (Cacioppo, 2013).
According to data from the U.S. Bureau of the Census the increasing proportion of people living alone doubled from 1960 to 2015 (12)
