I could no longer place so much respect in my boss, and rationalize ViKtim's worry was just a misinterpretation, after I had seen MiNarc's nervousness for myself. She would not be garnering any more admiration from me either. ViKtim gave herself a quick pep talk to amass confidence and to be tough, and got ready to battle MiNarc's evasive answers inside the Cabin-Mansion. She told me not to blemish her upper-hand by bringing the wine glass inside or handing it to her--she said to take it in my fifth wheel and bring it inside the Cabin-Mansion later. With that she followed MiNarc into their superseded-looking house.
Another time, I was fixing my hair in the bathroom of the Cabin-Mansion, whose linkin log walls did not meet the ceiling. Abruptly, a fight stormed into the dining room. MiNarc and ViKtim were loudly arguing, “She’s your little project” ViKtim said to MiNarc. They were talking about me, but didn’t realize I was inside the house-awkward. I was trapped. There was no way to leave except pass them through the dining room. But I had to get out of there. I put my head down, and practically ran from the bathroom, through the dining room, to the sliding glass door to the yard-where my fifth wheel was parked. But on the way, my right eye caught MiNarc head-butting ViKtim! I literally couldn’t believe it, and told myself I hadn’t seen clearly because of my trotting and head down. Didn’t happen. I mis-saw. I was mistaken. But months later ViKtim mentioned MiNarc had head-butted her in anger, and I knew what I had thought I’d seen was accurate. All this to say, I wondered what was currently going on inside the Cabin-Mansion. Could the tension turn to violence again? I hoped for the best, assumed ViKtim could hold her own, and went to bed inside my fifth wheel.
I was shocked how MiNarc's attitude had varied from everything I previously knew and expected out of her--she had been fully discredited in my mind. My opinions of Dr. MiNarc were now slanted. This was not my responsible employer, decorous friend, or loyal wife I had known the first time I had worked for (and hung around) Dr. MiNarc. I also couldn't believe my normally quick on her feet, intelligent boss had given such a spurious, misleading story either--obviously there was elaboration missing from that explanation. Without realizing it, I had acquired a quiet contempt for one of my (former) heroes.
