Taylor Swift wants a Love Story not a Circus [Queer Lyrical Easter Eggs- Pride 12]

 Cruel Summer

This song tells a story, and references other songs to supplement the details of that story.

Taylor sets the stage. She’s in a fever dream. This event is dreamy, brief, and it is compared to sickness and/or drugs.

Taylor has compared falling in love or being with this person to drugs/addiction before. In Don’t Blame Me, Taylor tells us her drug is her baby. Because Taylor’s love (queer love or being in love with somebody who’s already taken or being in love in a toxic situation) is like a drug. It’s bad for her but she’s addicted to it.

Don’t Blame Me also gives us hints who this toxic-baby is:

Don’t Blame Me has Kaylor and Big Sur references galore!

But there’s more. Taylor has likened either her love or this muse to other songs in the catalog as well. In Glitch, Taylor also passively brings up fevers with the line ‘sweat you out’ which could mean fever/illness/unwanted thing or getting CLEAN from addiction. The afore-mentioned baby that is Taylor’s drug.

So now we have Cruel Summer-Don’t Blame Me-Glitch-Clean all talking about Taylor’s baby/love being like a drug she’s addicted to. But like drugs, the toxic situation is bad for her. It’s a long-running theme in Taylor’s music.

So we’ve established that the beginning of Cruel Summer begins with Taylor dealing with this addiction to her baby.

Then she buys this bad boy. Is it to cover up her true love with the media/public, or does she BUY him to distract herself from this toxic baby?

A feminine body is new and different from Taylor, but the stigma of Sapphic love, or this circus of a love-triangle, or this uncertain lover is making Taylor sad and blue.

Verses-

Taylor is willing to date Karlie even though Karlie has been with Jo$h Ku$hner for years and intends to marry him. Taylor says in order to have Kaylor at all she’ll be cool participating in Karlie’s open relationship or being the side-chick Karlie cheats with.

But Taylor gets jealous:

We’ve already talked about Gold Rush in depth:

Here’s the link to Treacherous:

Taylor is participating in the circus, not the love story, and can’t help but to get jealous. But then the addiction sucks her back in and she’s at the garden gate.

It’s another Kaylor call-back:

Get it?

Blame Taylor.

It’s one thing to have a bisexual dalliance, especially when drunk, but both Taylor and Karlie start to panic when the public/media begin to talk.

Finally, Taylor has to come clean. This isn’t just funsy-sex, it’s not casual for her. She’s fallen in love with Karlie. Drunk, in the back of the getaway car, Taylor tells Karlie she’s IN LOVE with her.

Taylor’s declaration is not received well. There was panic/sirens in Karlie’s heart, not reciprocated feelings. Karlie has no intention of coming out or being openly in a relationship with one of the biggest pop stars in the world. If they are to keep messing around with each other it has to stay a secret, and be on the down low.

Broken hearted Taylor can’t handle those conditions and breaks Kaylor off:
