'2024 Album Ranking' Scoring System

 Scoring System

I.I use the 2024 Wiki to find new albums

A.There are too many to listen to 100%

1.genre-NON-specific

B.I try to judge the album for what it is

1.No genre is auto-ranked above/below any other

C.I listen to my staple artists

D.I listen to albums getting a lot of buzz

Exp: Billy Eilish, Charli XCX, Chappell Roan

E.If I have time (usually I don’t) I’ll pick:

1.genres I usually like

2.Interesting band names

3.Death of the Author

F.People that are problematic got equal consideration to the pool of albums

Note:  I have R. Kelly, Justin Bieber, Travis Scott totally blocked.

Exp:  JT or Eminem’s misogyny or Dr. Luke’s production

G.My faves were not starting out above, nor did they get more leniency from me

II.I tried to replicate real-life listening conditions (streaming)

A.I listened to each album at least twice to put the songs on their respective list

1.Only scored on good and above–no fillers in streaming.

2.I judged songs good-ish, great, and awesome.

III.I listened to each song on each list a minimum of 3x

A.Refining which list each song belonged on

1.I arranged the list alphabetically by title

a.so I didn’t know how many of each album made each list

2.This way I could keep things blind & objective

B.I didn’t arrange by artist/album until all songs got locked on their list

IV.Flat out highest percent of awesomes on the album wins.

A.# of awesomes/total number of tracks on album = % awesome

1.I did it as a percentage so bloating an album with filler songs didn’t gain points

B.If there was a tie–only–the next tier down’s percentage was the tie breaker

Exp: album A and album B both had 30% awesomes

Considered highest percent greats to break the tie

# of greats/total number of tracks on album = % greats

Writing convention:

I.Scores written w/a % were used to rank

A.# without % were just informational, icing on the cake–not used in calculations

Note on singles, EP, and versions of songs, ie REPEAT songs to pad streaming:

None were a factor in awesomes.

If a version was used to break a tie, I added all the versions from that particular output

Exp 1:  Album A & Album B both have 30% awesomes

Going to the greats list, Album A had put out an early single of a song

Album A tot song + that single = new awesome %

calculated great % w/new version tot songs

Exp 2: Album C & Album D both have 10% awesomes

Going to the greats list, Album C had put out an EP of several versions of a song on the album

Album C tot song + # versions on EP = new awesome %

Calculated greats % with total # songs
