Candy Gram Symptoms- Lifelong Mental Health Issues [11D]

Being on the receiving end of a social snub causes a cascade of emotional and cognitive consequences, researchers have found. Social rejection increases anger, anxiety, depression, jealousy and sadness (6).

He has now developed mental health issues of anxiety and depression because of the constant rejection.

My daughter is lonely, has anxiety, depression and some OCD. She is excluded also and school is rough.

Signs a youth may be developing serious mental health issues include:

(1) & (8)

  • Increased moodiness or increased up and down mood changes

  • Random fits of anger and crying spells for no apparent reason

  • Disproportionate reactions of anger and frustration when compared to the situation

  • A loss of interest in activities that used to bring joy and pleasure

  • Sleeplessness

  • Difficulty focusing and concentrating

  • Feelings of low self-esteem, guilt, and worthlessness

  • Complaints about feelings of hopelessness or emptiness

  • Sudden/abrupt avoidance of school and/or an activity they used to attend

Higher levels of loneliness were associated with more depressive symptoms, even after accounting for any effects related to age, gender, ethnicity, education, income, marital status, social support, and perceived stress (12).

When people are chronically rejected or excluded, however, the results may be severe. Depression, substance abuse and suicide are not uncommon responses. “Long-term ostracism seems to be very devastating,” Williams says. “People finally give up.” (6)
