Billionaires use women as a currency which allows entry to clubs, a seat at dinner parties or invitations onto yachts. At one house in the Hamptons, author Mears found 20 girls living on-site so their host was "assured a steady stream of invitations to the most exclusive parties in the Hamptons VIP scene." BUT benefits are actually pretty limited for the young women. Precisely because the men that control the scene and the rich men that bankroll it tended to see the women there as just “party girls.”
Party girl- A social type of young woman. Assumed to be out to have a good time, to be uneducated, and to have no career or serious future.
They’re also seen to be available for sex. They are looked at as a pool of hookup partners, not as marriage material. Rich people tend to partner with people of similar economic, educational, or occupational prestige and position. Though beautiful women are priceless assets in the party circuit, these women are regarded as worthless as long-term relationship prospects. Though beautiful women generate value for powerful men and business, they are shamed for trying to strategically capitalize on it.
But these women are successful and rich on their own?!
The celebrity lifestyle these people want to lead can’t be funded by their work alone. The money from streaming, tv shows, brand collaborations, partnerships, social media, and so on, can only fund so much.
There is a story that Ariana Grande reportedly canceled a career gig to go on a yacht because that would have paid more than what the career gig would have given her.
There are also rumors/stories/photographs of Hailey Baldwin, Selena Gomez, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner cruising on yachts.
For an actress or model that is just starting out or ranked C list it would be enticing to jump into yachting. Some of these stars make about $25,000 per episode of a show and to get a helipad on a yacht it can cost as much as $445,000.
And influencers, models, and actresses may feel pressured to continuously escalate their content to maintain visibility and relevance which can border on or even cross into exploitative practices.
Celebrities may get into the yachting scene because their career earnings are nowhere near the lifestyle that these yacht billionaires can provide. For example, operating expenses of yachts can be up to twice as much as the highest paid actress earns: In 2013 the highest paid actress Sandra Bullocks was paid $20 million which is just half of the running cost of yacht, Serene ($40 million). Women can gain access to an exclusive world without paying. Dark yachting reveals the length some individuals are willing to go to for luxury opulence and wealth.
