I wrote about this song before. It’s a classic bait and switch with more than one person inside the lyrics. When Taylor braids the lyrics like this it makes it difficult to know which part of the song is intended for which subject (and that’s intentional). This is one of the first songs where I realized Taylor was braiding different subjects together within one song.
Basically, it’s a song about complications of bearding when you’re actually in love.
