Who’s Yacht is biggest? The Pissing Contest of Billionaires

Actual #1:

We’ll talk about the largest yacht next time, because it’s kind of a special case.

#1. Eclipse

The $700 million yacht Eclipse is a luxurious yacht that has been spotted at the Cannes Film Festival.

Eclipse is the fifth largest yacht afloat and estimated to be worth $600 million. Built in Hamburg, Germany by Blohm & Voss shipyards, Eclipse was delivered in 2010 to Russian billionaire oligarch and politician, Roman Abramovich, who also owns superyacht, Solaris.

#3. Koru

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s vessel is one of the most expensive at an estimated $500 million.

Although we have scant information about the yacht's features, we do know that she will have an aft dip pool along with a further Jacuzzi on her sundeck and a variety of alfresco social spaces. She also has a crow's nest attached to her central mast, offering lofty panoramic views for her more adventurous guests. From the pictures we can see KORU also benefits from full-length windows across her superstructure allowing plenty of light to infuse her interiors.

His boat is SO big it needs it’s own boat!

As Jeff Bezos’s gigantic sailing schooner was sighted cruising the Mediterranean, beside it appeared the largest support boat ever. Abeona, apparently named after the Roman goddess of outward journeys, is a 246ft motor yacht able to cruise 5,000 miles on a tank of fuel. It has a helicopter pad, storage for all manner of boats and marine gear and a crane to winch them in and out of the water. There is also room to sleep 45. Yet it is a number two — an understudy to Koru, the three-masted, $500 million schooner launched from a yard in the Netherlands this year.

#2. Azzam

The current reigning champion for the longest purely private yacht in the world is the super yacht Azzam, which is 590 feet in length. For six years from her launch in April 2013, the superyacht stood as the world’s largest private yacht, eclipsed only in 2019 when the research and expedition vessel REV Ocean was unveiled – and then by only three meters.

Some 4,000 people were involved in the build over four years, clocking up six million man-hours before her launch in April 2013. The builders calculated that had the yacht been built by one person, work would have had to start in 1737BC.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's president, and Abu Dhabi's ruler, owned it. The furniture on board features intricate marquetry in mother of pearl – such a wealth that it equates to a year’s worth of worldwide production. Making sure the huge windows were fully stormproof meant the glass had to be specially engineered in Italy and it is over 7cm thick.

The yacht accommodates a large, open plan main saloon, accommodation for 36 guests and up to 80 crew.
